New bill rewards P100,000 to 100-Years-Old Filipino

The Philippine government will be giving away P100,000 to senior citizens who reach the age of 100 years old as a reward, if this new bill will be approved. The House of Representatives has just passed House Bill 834, otherwise known as "The Centenarians Act of 2012," that will give P100,000 gift cash to Filipino centenarians in the Philippines and abroad. The bill also entitles centenarians of 50% discount in many services, also declared September 25 as as "National Respect for Centenarians Day." "Living to be a centenarian, or three decades past the life expectancy is therefore an achievement and a distinction worthy of emulation and public recognition," Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman, the principal author of the bill, told the Manila Bulletin.
